about
Finn wrote the song as she sorted through her complicated feelings about relocating to Nashville from her hometown of Cleveland. "Moving away from home for the first time is an experience in itself, but moving away from home shortly before a global pandemic is another monster entirely," she says. "Before I moved to Nashville, I had convinced myself that everything would be better once I got out of town, I’d be able to leave behind all the toxic behaviors and views I carried with me while I built my life in Cleveland. Writing 'Ohio' led me to admit to myself that there was more work to be done than simply a change of scenery."
lyrics
I used to be able to walk home
when I was drunk and all alone
faces in the windows
cars on the street
god only he knows
Why'd you ever leave?
Why'd you ever leave?
Ohio
Red wasp and the Harpeth calling
I found a lover and I know i'm all in
She's got a way with the ways of the world
like a light in a big bad dream
New numbers on a mailbox
same hate in my heart
once the novelty has worn off
you're back at the start
perception follows you wherever you are
Ohio
When you're home grown
you just want to get out
and when you finally get out
you ache for what you know
Tullamore dew
hanging from the ceiling
on the corner of Kensington
Oh I miss the feeling
Oh I miss the feeling
Oh I miss the feeling
Ohio
