about

The country-folk gem "Neat" is an updated take on one of Finn's favorite songs, one that's been a staple of her sets since 2015. This brand-new recording boasts a loping tempo, languid pedal steel and acoustic guitar, and brushed drums. Lyrically, such a sparse backdrop is ideal for her musings on navigating tough waters. "I tried to keep the meaning of 'Neat' rather ambiguous so that the listener can find their own attachment to it in whatever way might bring them some healing, she says. "For me personally, its lyrics speak on inner conflict that arises with difficult situations, and how those difficult situations give me an opportunity to grow and recognize the power within." Accordingly, as the song nears the end, it suddenly explodes into a roaring rock song with pounding drums and electric riffs—the sonic equivalent of Finn growing empowered and asserting her place in the world.

lyrics

Emptiness is a fickle friend i've met
shook his hand and made a deal that I couldn't bet my life on
bet my life on

swollen pride and a heavy chance of snow
on the ground is where I seem to find my soul

oooo give me a reason
oooo give it to me straight
ooooo I need an answer
but I know I'm not getting it today

take it all or i'll take it from myself
tell me twice or more I'll be here to witness all the pleasantries
and all the growing seeds

coming with the spring and all it has to show
take one for the team and graciously let go

ooo give me some whiskey
but give it to me straight
I need to feel good
but I know i'm not feeling good
today

yes I am broken
but I am rebuilding the sky above my head
